weekend!

I still have lots to blog about for the Xmas vacay, but I keep getting sidetracked--ooh look shiny object!

We had such a swimmingly busy weekend around these parts!

Friday--G had a game against a really good school.
it moved so fast!

Met some pals for a late dinner.

Saturday I went to a pinned party!  Where we all chose something we'd pinned and made it!
I made a melted army man bowl...

and a cowboys and indians one, I'm thinking of making it bigger...

the most fun was making these cookies!  Soooo easy!

Wehad such a good time working on the pins and just playing with different ideas!

Then my lovely ladies had their first visit to build-a-bear.  I haven't been there in ages, which means I had no idea that it is insanely a wee bit crowded on a Saturday afternoon.

Today was a laundry war while watching some guys in tight pants wage war over a ball...
Seriously, where do the socks go? Do you ever feel like just buying new ones instead of matching them?

Weekend of Celebrating!

Here at this swim house we had a bizzzzzeee weekend!  I hope your Thanksgiving was really great.
On Wednesday, my lovely ladies had their feast, complete with turkey tunes sung by the 3-6 set.  You could just die at the cuteness.

On Thursday we did the unthinkable!  We didn't cook! We didn't eat Turkey!  Nope my folks ordered a prime rib dinner from Safeway.  It was ex.cell.ent!  I did make these. And like she says--they are awesomesauce! (I'm eating the last one right now!)
Then yesterday is the big day of celebrating around these parts...we cooked a turkey finally, but way mucho more important is Emmy, my Birdie, turned one whole hand!  Yep, somehow she is now five! 5! Yikes!

She wanted to decorate her own cake and of course LB helped (I cannot guarantee the prior whereabouts of those sprinkles).

We had a small family party at home--like we were going to go anywhere when we had royalty around hehehe

I seriously am amazed she is five!

I tried to tell her she has to be 4 for two years and she laughed that one off.  So then I cam at another angle..."You know Emmy, when you're 5 you have to get a job" Again with the laughter!  Her reply "Mommy, I have a job, I go to school!" Man oh man, is she a smarty farty.  Adore that kid!
Adore all these little peeps that call me mom.
 They really are the greatest!

Oh and since I know you're wondering--I survived triumphed on Black Friday and got the kiddos a giant trampoline-with an enclosure!  Let's hope my neuroses don't get the best of me and I let the kids enjoy knocking themselves around and hopefully wear themselves out...
Hope your weekend was as blessed as mine was!

finding meaning and ahhhh the pressure...

on location
I had to work out of town again all last week...it was a good job, but one of those all encompassing types, where I barely have time to think.  I feel lucky to squeeze in 10 minutes to skype with my babies at the end of the day.
and the pressure to keep up just slides away, plus trust me, you absatively do not want to hear about my work week!

Gman has been having a rough week/life at school for a variety of reasons.  Really it's all about basketball.  He is full of negativity and frustration. (side note: the kid is used to things being easy for him--straight A's forev babeeeee-- but he started basketball late in youth).  He isn't as good as he wants to be. The stinker is also your typical teenager and blaming a lot of things on others. Now for those of you that don't have the pleasure of knowing my wunderfewl boi, he's awesomesauce--just was down on his luck..Relying on yourself for your fulfillment is a lifelong lesson in my opinion...

This was a moment in life, where as a parent you have to dig down, down to a place you don't want to go readily.

You see, drama skeptics, when I was in high school, a senior in fact..I had a really hard time with a teacher I greatly loved and respected.   This falling out led to a lot of tension and me essentially failing at this activity.  Granted, I dropped the ball on this activity that was near and dear to my heart.  And I, was the reason I didn't win a silly award at the end of the year. The feelings I had of rejection and disappointment were so deep and a huge blow to my self esteem.

Sitting and listening to someone you love, 'complain' but really try to tell you how they're hurting where they're at is so hard.  Harder than a colicky baby or the terrible twos.  A teenager is an entity unto themselves. And when your kid is at any age, but especially a teenager, you have to balance your involvement--you know it is the time where there are things they have to figure out for themselves. (this is something I have a particularly hard time with, as a single and neurotic parent--I am a mama bear, helicoptering herself and her views all over the poor children)

I had this AHA moment, where I realized, I had to tell my son about the pain in my past.  In a way it sounds silly to write it out like this.  I'm so glad I told him though. I sat here on my couch and retold him the story of how I failed at something in high school, how much it hurt at the time and even for a long time after, but how I was a stronger person for it and how I realized the only person that could control those events then was the same person controlling the perspective now--ME.  In a way, it was like those events led me to this, to the chance to share and find meaning in my past.  Funny how finding meaning and forgiveness is something that takes years sometimes.

how many years 'til this is my main transpo?!

Overheard...

This week we had an eye doctor appointment, a dentist appointment, trick-or-treating and good ol' fashioned playtime...

Emmy was NOT happy about the vision check-up...Lilly said to her, "don't worry Emmy, I'll be with you the whole time"

In true form, Lilly was NOT happy about the tooth action...Emmy said, "it's ok Lil, I'll hold your hand while we're there"

collective awwwwwww

The girls were playing and from the kitchen I hear one say to the other--"oooh look, you tied him up Reee-aaallll good!"
The response? "I know!"

sooooo funny they are!

Gary made his JV basketball team this year--here's hoping for a great season!  It's going to be busy around these parts.  Can you believe how close we are to the holiday season!?

I received my first photo book in the mail--swoooooon!  I know peeps have been getting them for years, somehow I'm behind the trend...It is so awesomesuace, I may be gifting books to everyone this year!
That and I'm already missing Disneyland...silly I know :)

Keeping up with the blogses and the eye doc

First thought--It is so hard to stay on top of blogging...

Almost as hard as the shoulder stance in yoga...I went to yoga tonight...yowza--it's way hard than it looks, or maybe it's just me? are you a yogi?

Two blind pumpkins!
We talked about the little ladies going to the eye doctor the other day...and she told us...wait for it...to come back in six months...yeehaw!

On our fun to do list then will be to see if Bean has lazy eye and to see how Em's stigmatism in both, yes both, eyes is doing...

Here's a fun fact for ya--I had lazy eye as a kid!  Booyah!  Got to wear a patch and everything for a few months to make the weak eye stronger!  I beeee-leeeeved I was a pirate!  beee-leeeeved it peeps!  I loved that patch...

Now you have to feel a little bad for me, because...while I make an effort to purchase cahuuute clothes for my children, I was not so lucky.
My folks were so busy going to school and working (and probably being broke) that I was not the cute-patoot of the pre-school class.  and I had no hair (less than Bean!) and it was the 70s!  I never had a chance!
What more can I say but arrrrrrrgh!

So funny...
thought I'd show you a sweetie pie outfit and what does iPhoto pull up?
Yah she's my kid...

Random week in Review

We got some pumpkins!  yay!  I love those big orange orbs! Since it's too early to carve them, they became an art project...so funny...
she painted all.over.herself...I think there may still be some purple in her hair...

she has figured out how to take pics with my iPhone :)

This is the one she took! Isn't it nice?!
they are now the 'centerpiece' on our table where we craft, because there's no room to...eat
I like to think of these pumpkins as art--yanno Avant Gourde ;)

we watched Toy Story (and ignored the laundry)

Lookie Lookie!  We got some bunnies!
We actually got two sister (phew to no babies!) bunnies.  Really I should say rabbits, because they are two big girls. A good friend works at Petco where they had been given up, so we adopted them!
I am a little crazy I think, there are now 3 of the under-18 set and 3 of the four-legged set in the house. And I'm the only one that is neither! Yikes, am I outnumbered or what?  Who signed me up for this single adult thing!?
(wanna feed my Evita-esque ego and be a follower? sign up right over there----->
and I'll give you candy or stickers or something!)

Week in review aka my attempt at Sainthood

I blame the children.  There is a certain amount of latitude in being able to blame your kids, particularly when you have 3 and they are of wayyyyy different ages and stages...
Really it started with Lilly's bday celebrations over the weekend, remember I'm all for spending time with the ex in the name of healthy children.

Then Emmy had a doctor's appointment with her orthopedic specialist (my kid has one leg longer than the other AND flat feet--fahreeeekeeee fun kid) and of course we both want to hear what he has to say about that.  Plus it gave me the opportunity to put the Bean in a drawer instead of a corner wink wink...

In addition, the ex is moving this week.  (important deets--he has zippo friends and drives a honda)  My delovely dad left me his truck and permission to help him move (let it be know that this apple doesn't fall far from the tree as my awesomesauce pops would have been in the thick of it helping as well)  So yep dear bloggy pals, I have been helping move boxes of crap stuff and furniture all week!

Lessons learned/reminded of--

he is a hoarder...se.ri.ous.ly oh so much stuff
this girl does not like moving, not even a little
this girl should purge her own stuff, because moving a lot of stuff you never use just makes you feel dirty and madmadmad! Granted some of said anger is related to helping an 'ex' move I'm certain of that.

but the best lesson is--Hooray that that part of my life is further and further behind me--yippee skippee! I think I deserve some sort of prize for getting through this and being extra nice to him all week--it was emotionally draining and reinforcing of good choices at the same time...

Other Yippees worth mention--
The doc says Em is doing great and will have a developed arch within a year or so (thanks to pinkalicious orthotics she wears)
I fit into a smaller size jeans this week!
I'm packing for vacay right after I finish this (if I can tear myself away from more blog stalking)
