finding meaning and ahhhh the pressure...

on location
I had to work out of town again all last week...it was a good job, but one of those all encompassing types, where I barely have time to think.  I feel lucky to squeeze in 10 minutes to skype with my babies at the end of the day.
and the pressure to keep up just slides away, plus trust me, you absatively do not want to hear about my work week!

Gman has been having a rough week/life at school for a variety of reasons.  Really it's all about basketball.  He is full of negativity and frustration. (side note: the kid is used to things being easy for him--straight A's forev babeeeee-- but he started basketball late in youth).  He isn't as good as he wants to be. The stinker is also your typical teenager and blaming a lot of things on others. Now for those of you that don't have the pleasure of knowing my wunderfewl boi, he's awesomesauce--just was down on his luck..Relying on yourself for your fulfillment is a lifelong lesson in my opinion...

This was a moment in life, where as a parent you have to dig down, down to a place you don't want to go readily.

You see, drama skeptics, when I was in high school, a senior in fact..I had a really hard time with a teacher I greatly loved and respected.   This falling out led to a lot of tension and me essentially failing at this activity.  Granted, I dropped the ball on this activity that was near and dear to my heart.  And I, was the reason I didn't win a silly award at the end of the year. The feelings I had of rejection and disappointment were so deep and a huge blow to my self esteem.

Sitting and listening to someone you love, 'complain' but really try to tell you how they're hurting where they're at is so hard.  Harder than a colicky baby or the terrible twos.  A teenager is an entity unto themselves. And when your kid is at any age, but especially a teenager, you have to balance your involvement--you know it is the time where there are things they have to figure out for themselves. (this is something I have a particularly hard time with, as a single and neurotic parent--I am a mama bear, helicoptering herself and her views all over the poor children)

I had this AHA moment, where I realized, I had to tell my son about the pain in my past.  In a way it sounds silly to write it out like this.  I'm so glad I told him though. I sat here on my couch and retold him the story of how I failed at something in high school, how much it hurt at the time and even for a long time after, but how I was a stronger person for it and how I realized the only person that could control those events then was the same person controlling the perspective now--ME.  In a way, it was like those events led me to this, to the chance to share and find meaning in my past.  Funny how finding meaning and forgiveness is something that takes years sometimes.

how many years 'til this is my main transpo?!

Makin' stuff

Things to know about me...

  • I love creating things, (though I try to stay away from the drahhh-mahhh creation, uh hello why I'm so happily s to the ingle!)
  •  Spending time with my glue gun after a rough day always makes me warm and fuzzy (and not just from the burns!)
  • I love Goodwill.  known around these parts as the G-Dub...
  • I have a thing for cake plates, I have at least 5...(now 8)
You have probably seen DIY cake plates on the interwebz?  Where some skinny glass vase or cup type thing is glued to a glass serving dish or plate
Here's my version...

started like this...
but flipping the base over meant I could put fun stuff inside!

put the glass plate upside down
apply my 'boi-toi'  aka hawt glue to the piece that will be the base

stick the two pieces together and allow to dry!

eat and be merry during dry time

continue these steps to make more cake plates...

put fun and festive items in bases

this base is deckled and the red bell just makes it look fun and funky--love!

You could totally use them for any holiday--think eggs, flags, ghosts oh I can.not.wait!  Tomorrow i must make a cake...

Btw...
All three are made for less than $5!

Some Days

are dark days.

i went to work out today, realized i hadn't shaved my armpits in long enough for peeps to notice.  that was darkly embarrassing.
seriously.
you think you're going to get through a divorce and start moving on and put the pieces back together.  and you know what, you're wrong. so wrong.

my divorce is into it's second month of finality.  i've kinda been dating a nice guy.  i've even been to disneyland (cue announcer--shelly, you're divorce is f to the inal what are ya going to do now...shelly yells "I'm going to Disneyland!'  ahhhhhhh I wish)

but there are moments.  actually there are a lot of moments.  when you're lonely.  when you wonder if you did the right thing considering the marriage was so short.  when you crave adult conversation and question yourself for leaning heavily on your teenager to help you be an effective person and parent.  when you crave adult interaction (especially when you don't work a regular job, so there aren't normal co-workers). or you crave other adult activities.

today's moment goes like this.

I check the mail (which is something I don't have the skill set to check daily--lamesauce I know).  there is no child support check.  I wonder why?  since I'm new to this whole thing I think perhaps it only gets sent to you once a month?  I dunno.  ahhhhhh the interwebz and I are such good friends...I do some research make some phone calls...turns out no payments to me have been made (besides the first one).  The previous payment didn't come from the employer (state requirement) it came from the ex factor personally...that doesn't make any sense?  You see, he told me he talked to HR about sending the whole check to me so he wouldn't get behind.  Turns out he didn't talk to HR, he didn't have the chance because he's been suspended.  he tells me this suspension is only a 'temp' thing--hahaha--it's been 'temp' for the last 2 weeks...um, yah...sounds like termination to me.  a big fat firing.  oh dear blog, dear dear blank sheet.  even you are laughing at me, because you know he was also fired from his last two jobs and was unemployed for 18months after the second firing...you harbor so many of my dirty little secrets

oh that whole paragraph kills me,  and we're not just talking death by grammatical error here peeps.  oh my foolishness doesn't just end there...oh no it actually goes further, but that is a post for another day.  as real life is calling.  putting on a face that has nothing to do with this moment for the children that I am lucky to mother and be distracted by...

Lesson Learned: Trust No One.  Especially no one called the ex-factor
